Storing & Handling Lab Supplies
Lab supplies are only as good as how they’re stored and handled. This is general handling information for laboratory use — not medical or dosing guidance.
Sealed & dry storage
Keep sealed supplies — water, saline, PBS, vials, syringes — cool, dry, and out of direct light. Most solutions are fine at room temperature until opened; always check the product label.
Bacteriostatic water contains a small amount of benzyl alcohol that inhibits microbial growth over a storage window once opened — note the date you open it.
Reconstituted solutions
Once you’ve mixed a solution, it’s generally held refrigerated (commonly 2–8 °C) and used within the appropriate window. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles, and keep it away from heat and light.
Inspect any solution for clarity and the absence of particulates before use.
Sterile, careful handling
Treat supplies as you would any laboratory reagent: clean work surface, intact seals, careful technique. Use a fresh syringe and needle for each draw.
Label and date what you open or mix, and note lot numbers — sterile supplies are lot-traceable to their record.
